Dianne Berman Feinstein was an American politician who served as a United States Senator from California for six terms after winning a special election in 1992.

Dianne Feinstein died on Friday, September 29 2023 at the age of 90. Her cause of death has not been revealed.

Tribute poured in when her death was announced. Senator Chuck Schumer  said, “She’s a legend. A legend in California as the first woman senator. A legend in the Senate. She was the leader on so many different issues.”

She graduated from Stanford University in 1955. She served three terms as mayor of San Francisco from 1978 to 1988.

Dianne Feinstein was elected to the United States Senate in a special election in 1992. She is the state’s senior senator and the state’s first female U.S. senator. Feinstein has received five re-elections.

She earned 7.86 million votes in the 2012 election, making her the most popular U.S. Senate candidate in history

Dianne Feinstein was the first woman to lead the Senate Rules Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee, as well as the first woman to preside over a presidential inauguration in the United States.

She was also the longest-serving U.S. senator from California, the longest-serving female senator in history, and the Senate’s senior Democratic member
