The song ‘Goodnight Saigon’ was written by Joel as a mark of respect for many of his friends who had served in the war Joel imagines what it must have been like deep in the combat-addled terrain in the song.

Goodnight Saigon is from Billy’s 1982 album The Nylon Curtain. The single was never a huge hit on the American music charts, but it has become one of his more popular songs during concerts.
