Cheung was born Cheung Fat-chung in Kowloon, British Hong Kong, the youngest of 10 children in a middle-class Hakka family. He died at the get of 46 in 2003 through suicide.

In an interview in 1992, Cheung stated that :
“My mind is bisexual. It’s easy for me to love a woman. It’s also easy for me to love a man, too” and “I believe that a good actor would be androgynous, and ever-changing.”

Did Leslie Cheung date Anita Mui?
Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui had a very good working relationship ever since they met. In fact, the two often made guest appearances in each other’s concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum, despite their busy schedules.
Aside from their working relationship and mutual respect they had for each other, there is no evidence to suggest they were dating. Leslie actually had a male partner called Daffy Tong Hok-Tak. They were together until he died in 2003.
