Mary, Queen of Scots, also known as Mary Stuart or Mary I of Scotland, was Queen of Scotland from 14 December 1542 until she forced abdication in 1567.

The only surviving legitimate child of James V of Scotland, Mary was six days old when her father died and she acceded to the throne.

Mary’s half-brother James conspired with John Knox. Mary was raised in France alongside her eventual first husband, the Dauphin of France.
But she was widowed at age 18 and fled to her homeland of Scotland after her husband’s death.

What happened to Queen Mary of Scotland’s husband?
Early in the morning of 10 February 1567, Kirk o’ Field house in Edinburgh was destroyed by an explosion.
The partially clothed bodies of Lord Darnley, the second husband of Mary, Queen of Scots, and his servant were found in a nearby orchard, apparently strangled but unharmed by the explosion.
