Shawn Johnson East, a gold medalist in gymnastics, left the sport at the young age of 20 after one of the most successful careers.

Johnson East struggled with her feelings about leaving the mat when the decision was made for her to retire from the sport.
“It was the most difficult choice. On the most recent episode of The Players’ Pod, Johnson East explains to Kelley O’Hara, “I think the reason why it was so hard was that I couldn’t get past the notion of retirement feeling like quitting”.

After breaking her ACL while skiing with friends to celebrate her 18th birthday, Johnson East was in the midst of an incredible comeback.
She was on her way to making her second Olympic squad a year and a half later, but she was still battling a persistent feeling of insecurity.
