On July 5, 1994, Shohei Ohtani, a Major League Baseball pitcher, designated hitter, and outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels, was born in Japan.

The Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of the Pacific League of Nippon Professional Baseball were his former team.

Ohtani was taken first overall by the Fighters in the 2012 draft. He took part in the NPB from 2013 to 2017 with the Fighters as an outfielder and pitcher.
