Szoboszlai made his Red Bull Salzburg debut against Austria Wien on May 27, 2018, during the 2017–18 season. In the 57th minute, he was substituted for Enock Mwepu.

In a 6-0 victory over SC Eglo Schwarz in the Austrian Cup, he scored his first goal for the team. On March 17, 2019, he scored his first league goal against Wacker Innsbruck. In a 6-2 victory over Genk on September 17, 2019, he made his Champions League debut and netted his first goal of the season.
Szoboszlai scored a hat-trick on June 10, 2020, when Red Bull Salzburg defeated Sturm Graz 5-1. He concluded the season with 9 goals and 14 assists in 27 league games, winning Austrian Bundesliga Player of the Year honors for the 2019–20 campaign.

Szoboszlai was signed by RB Leipzig on December 17, 2020, to a four-and-a-half-year deal that will last until June 2025. Due to a long-term injury, he was unable to participate in any games for RB Leipzig in the 2020–21 campaign.
On August 7, 2021, he finally made his professional debut against SV Sandhausen in a German Cup match. He entered the game as a replacement in the 78th minute and scored three minutes later.
