His journey into music began in his Detroit neighbourhood, where he played basketball and football at Pershing High School. It was during these early years that he met fellow band member Levi Stubbs.

Their shared passion for singing led them to form The Four Tops, originally known as “The Four Aims,” alongside Lawrence Payton and Renaldo “Obie” Benson. The group gained immense popularity after signing with Motown Records in 1963, achieving numerous hits and cementing their place in music history.

The Four Tops became one of the most successful recording groups of the 1960s, with their soulful tunes resonating across the globe. Their legacy includes 14 charted hits and a ranking at number 77 in Billboard magazine’s “Top 100 Artists of All Time.” Fakir’s dedication to the group and his musical prowess earned him widespread acclaim and admiration.

Throughout his life, Fakir remained active in the music scene, even continuing to tour with The Four Tops until less than a month before his death.
