Meet Paul Erwin

Paul Erwin, the father of Emily Strayer, was a man of many talents and accomplishments. Born  September 2, 1944, he graduated at the top of his class from Stamford High School in 1962.

A star-tight end for the Black Knights, Paul’s prowess on the football field was just the beginning of a remarkable journey.

Continuing his athletic and academic pursuits, Paul played football at West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon, West Virginia, earning his BA in English in 1966. His love for education extended beyond the playing field, leading him to become a classroom teacher, administrator, and innovative educator.

Paul’s impact on education reached Dallastown Area High School in Pennsylvania, where he served as an English teacher. A man of letters, he earned an MA in Education from the University at Albany, State University of New York.

Paul’s multifaceted life included serving as the editor of The Pharos, West Virginia Wesleyan’s student-run newspaper, and being a member of the Delta Xi fraternity. His journey concluded peacefully on Monday, March 19, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 73.

Paul is survived by his wife, Maria Weeks-Erwin; former wife and mother of his three daughters, Barbara Trask; his daughters: Julia Erwin-Weiner, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer; and his son, Ian Davis.
