Former Los Angeles Lakers draft pick Darius Morris has passed away at the age of 33, his family confirmed on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

Morris, a Los Angeles native and former standout at the University of Michigan, was found deceased in the Los Angeles area on Thursday, May 2, according to TMZ. The family did not disclose the cause of death.

In a statement to TMZ, Morris’ family requested privacy during this difficult time, saying, “With great sadness, we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris.”

Selected by the Lakers in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft, Morris had a brief but notable career in the NBA, averaging 3.3 points in 132 games, including 17 starts, with the Lakers and four other teams over four seasons.

After his time in the NBA, Morris continued his professional career playing overseas in China and France, with his last season being in 2019-2020.

Upon hearing the news of Morris’ passing, the Los Angeles Lakers expressed their condolences, stating they were “heartbroken by the passing” of the former player.
