Ian Buckett, a former prop for Wales and Swansea, has passed away at the age of 56. His death was announced on July 9, 2024.

Buckett earned three senior caps for Wales in the 1990s and made nine appearances for Wales A.
He also represented the Barbarians during his rugby career. A solicitor by profession, Buckett played for London Welsh and university rugby for Wales, Swansea, and Oxford.
Originally from North Wales, Buckett remained active in the rugby community after his playing days, contributing to the running of Flint RFC and RGC14.
He made 186 appearances over 10 seasons with Swansea before moving to London Welsh in 1998.

Buckett’s international debut for Wales came against Tonga in 1994. He later played against the USA and Canada in 1997.
The Welsh Rugby Union described Buckett as a player who was “admired and feared in equal measure.” Swansea RFC expressed their deep sadness at his passing.
Flint RFC paid tribute to Buckett, calling him a “gentleman and a good friend to everyone.” They added, “Ian touched so many lives and he’ll be sorely missed, not only at Flint RFC, but also throughout North Wales, Wales, and the wider rugby community.”
