Peter Amster is a theatre director who was the husband of Frank Galati, a director, writer, and actor from the United States. Frank Galati passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023. He was 79.

Frank Galati’s husband Peter Amster, returned to an Asolo Rep rehearsal hall on Tuesday, January 2, 2023, less than 24 hours after Galati’s passing to continue work on his upcoming production of Ken Ludwig’s “The Three Musketeers,” which opens January 13 2023.
“Like Frank, I find joy in the rehearsal hall, and solace that I can’t find just moping around at home,” Amster said.
Amster introduced Galati to a longtime friend, Michael Donald Edward, the producing artistic director of Asolo Rep, who first hired Galati to stage Reginald Rose’s drama “12 Angry Men” in 2010

Frank Galati was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2004. For his contributions to Chicago theatre, he received nine Joseph Jefferson Awards.
Mr. Galati received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay The Accidental Tourist in 1989.
He returned to Broadway in 1998 with Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty, and Lynn Ahrens’ epic Ragtime, adapted from the E.L. Doctorow novel, for which he received Tony and Drama Desk nominations.
