Gary Speed, a former Premier League midfielder, died by suicide on November 27, 2011, at the age of 42, at his house in Chester. Eddie and Tommy, Gary’s two boys, were just 14 and 13 years old when their father died. Both are presently pursuing their studies in New York.

When he graduated from high school in June 1988, Speed joined Leeds United as a trainee and served as Peter Swan’s boot boy until signing a professional contract on June 13, 1988.
Speed had the most Premier League appearances (535) until David James surpassed him. Only James and Ryan Giggs had more Premier League appearances than Speed at the time of his death. He played 840 times in domestic tournaments, including the Football League and cup events.
