Sir Georg Solti KBE was a Hungarian-British orchestral and operatic conductor, known for his appearances with opera companies in Munich, Frankfurt, and London, and as a long-serving music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Born in Budapest, he studied there with Béla Bartók, Leó Weiner, and Ernő Dohnányi.

Georg Solti First Wife: Who Was Hedwig Oeschli?

While in Switzerland, he met Hedwig (Hedi) Oeschli and wedded her in 1946. The marriage ended in 1964 with their divorce. Later, Solti met Valerie Pitts, a British television presenter, who was already married. She eventually divorced her husband and married Solti in November 1967. The couple had two daughters.
Georg Solti died in his sleep on 5 September 1997 while on a vacation in Antibes, France. As a conductor, Solti was best known for his dynamic and deeply felt interpretations of operas, symphonies, and other large-scale works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss, and Gustav Mahler.
