Known by his moniker “the Iceman,” George Gervin is an American retired professional basketball player who was a member of the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, and Virginia Squires in the National Basketball Association and American Basketball Association.

Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Virginia Squires of the ABA, Johnny Kerr, saw Gervin when he was playing in Michigan with the Pontiac Chaparrals of the Continental Basketball Association in 1972–1973. Gervin received a $40,000-a-year contract with the Squires in January 1973 thanks to Kerr’s signing.
George Gervin has been involved in the San Antonio community after he left professional basketball by creating programs that help impoverished kids. He founded the George Gervin Youth Center in 1991.
