Guillermo Lasso is an Ecuadorian businessman, banker, and politician who has been the country’s 47th president since May 24, 2021.

Guillermo Lasso and his wife Mara de Lourdes Alcvar have five children Maria de Lourdes, Juan, Guillermo Enrique, Santiago, and Mara de las Mercedes. There is not much information about his children.
Prior to becoming president, Lasso served as Superminister of Economy during the brief presidency of Jamil Mahuad in 1999. He was previously the Governor of Guayas from 1998 to 1999.
During the Lucio Gutiérrez administration in 2003, he served as Ecuador’s Itinerant Ambassador. Aside from politics, Lasso is a banker who previously served as CEO of Banco Guayaquil.

Guillermo Lasso’s presidency was notable for COVID-19 vaccination initiatives as well as economic relief packages financed by tax increases on the wealthy and IMF funding. However, his economic policies, as well as the rise in food and fuel prices, sparked a wave of protests across the country.
The National Assembly officially began a second impeachment proceeding against Lasso in May 2023. As a result, Lasso dissolved the National Assembly on May 17, 2023, by invoking a constitutional provision known as muerte cruzada, triggering the 2023 general election.
