Henry James Redknapp, a former English football manager, and the player was born on March 2, 1947. Prior to managing Birmingham City, he was in charge of AFC Bournemouth, West Ham United, Portsmouth, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Queens Park Rangers. He managed the Portsmouth team that won the 2008 FA Cup during his second stint there. He led Tottenham into the UEFA Champions League at the end of the 2009–10 campaign. In 2017, Redknapp made a retirement announcement from football management.

Jamie Redknapp, his son, was a player for him at Southampton and Bournemouth. Frank Lampard, who played for West Ham United under him, is also related to him via blood.

Redknapp was a midfielder in his playing career. He began his career with Tottenham Hotspur, where he played for the youth team until he was 15 years old when he moved to West Ham United. He broke into the West Ham first team in 1965-66, making seven appearances and scoring one goal. On August 23, 1965, he made his West Ham debut in a 1-1 draw against Sunderland at home. On 8 April 1966, he scored his first goal in a 4-1 away win over Tottenham.
