Late iconic author Hilary Mantel was born to her parents, Margaret and Henry Thompson.

Mantel however, adapted the name of her stepfather, Jack Mantel who married her mother in 1982, following a divorce from her father.
Mantel married Gerald McEwen in 1973 and they lived together until her death.
