Duhan van der Merwe is set to make history as Scotland’s all-time record try-scorer on Saturday, having been reinstated in the starting XV for the final match of their Americas tour against Uruguay. Van der Merwe, who was rested in the previous game against Chile, will have the opportunity to surpass Stuart Hogg’s record of 27 international tries.

The Edinburgh winger returns to action in Montevideo, forming part of a revamped back three alongside club-mate Harry Paterson and Kyle Rowe. Rowe, who played full-back in the last match, switches to the wing, while stand-off Ben Healy is the only other player retaining his place from the 52-11 victory over Chile.

Head coach Gregor Townsend has opted for significant changes, naming a squad comprised entirely of Scottish-based players due to the match falling outside the official Test window. Rory Darge returns to captain the side, leading a back row that includes Luke Crosbie and Matt Fagerson at number eight.

Centre Huw Jones, earning his 50th cap, and hooker Ewan Ashman will share vice-captain duties. Max Williamson will start in the second row alongside Glasgow team-mate Scott Cummings, marking his fourth cap.

The bench features a blend of youth and experience, with notable inclusions being Pierre Schoeman, Jamie Ritchie, Adam Hastings, and Kyle Steyn. This strategic depth aims to ensure Scotland finishes their tour on a high, having already secured wide-margin wins over Canada, USA, and Chile.

Scotland’s starting XV for the match against Uruguay on Saturday is as follows: Harry Paterson, Kyle Rowe, Huw Jones, Sione McDowall, Duhan van der Merwe, Ben Healy, George Horne; Rory Sutherland, Ewan Ashman, Javan Sebastian, Max Williamson, Scott Cummings, Luke Crosbie, Rory Darge (c), Matt Fagerson.

Replacements include: Patrick Harrison, Pierre Schoeman, Murphy Walker, Glen Brown, Jamie Ritchie, Jamie Dobie, Adam Hastings, Kyle Steyn.

As Scotland aims to complete their tour with a clean sweep of victories, all eyes will be on Duhan van der Merwe, who is on the brink of etching his name in the record books.
