Dawn Roma French was born on October 11, 1957, in Holyhead, United Kingdom to
to English parents Felicity Roma O’Brien and Denys Vernon French.
Dawn French’s father has served in the Royal Air Force and was stationed at RAF Valley. She has an older brother, Gary. Dawn French attended Caistor Grammar School for one year.
Dawn French later attended boarding school at St Dunstan’s Abbey School for Girls in Plymouth and later spent a year studying at the Spence School in New York. She also attended Royal Central School of Speech and Drama where she began studying drama in 1977.

Dawn French is best known for starring in and writing for the BBC comedy sketch show French and Saunders with her best friend and comedy partner, Jennifer Saunders.

Dawn French won the honorary Golden Rose of Montreux award in 2002 alongside Saunders and has been nominated for seven BAFTA TV Awards.
Dawn French was listed in The Observer as one of the 50 funniest acts in British comedy in 2003. She was also named as the most admired female celebrity among women in Britain in 2006 and in February 2013, she was named one of the 100 most powerful women in the United Kingdom by Woman’s Hour on BBC Radio 4.
