In 2011, Sandusky was arrested. He was then charged with 53 counts of sexual abuse of young males from 1994 to 2009. He was however convicted of 45 of those charges. In 1977, Sandusky founded The Second Mile, a non-profit charity that was serving underprivileged youths in Pennsylvania. This was how Sandusky met his victims.
Sandusky was caught when a young graduate assistant witnessed him sexually abusing a boy in a shower. The young witness then recounted the incident to Joe Paterno and two campus authorities. But they did nothing to alert the authorities.
Suspicion arose when the mother of one of the young people in the Second Mile called the police. This is because her son had told her that Sandusky hugged him while they were showering.
