For his memoir Experience, he got the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and he was nominated for the Booker Prize twice.
Amis claims that his father was uninterested in his work. “I can pinpoint the precise location where he came to a halt and sent Money twirling through the air; this is where the character named Martin Amis comes in.”
Amis said in The New Republic in 2012 that he was “moving house” from Camden Town to Cobble Hill.
He was a lifetime heavy smoker who lived in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, where he died from oesophageal cancer on May 19, 2023, at the age of 73.
