Keith Bennett was the only victim whose body was not found and therefore, the police were desperate to locate him.

Between 1963 and 1965, Ian Brady and Myra Hindley abducted, tortured and murdered five children between the ages of 10 and 17. They were; Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey and Edward Evans. At least four of them were sexually assaulted.

Lesley Ann’s body was found on Saddleworth Moor after police received a tip-off from one of Brady’s neighbours, and subsequent searches of the area unearthed the remains of Pauline and John.

Bennett’s body is also thought to be buried there, but despite repeated searches, it remains undiscovered.

The pair were caught after Hindley’s brother-in-law witnessed the murder of Edward and reported it to police, who found his body at Brady and Hindley’s shared home in Hyde, Greater Manchester.

While locked up, Brady later admitted to the murders of Bennett and 16-year-old Pauline Reade.

Hindley died in prison in 2002 at the age of 60 and Brady died in 2017, at Ashworth, aged 79.
