After going undrafted, Dungy signed on with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent and was converted to defensive back, going on to play three seasons in the NFL. Dungy began his head coaching tenure in 1996 with the Buccaneers, a franchise regarded as one of the league’s worst and was successfully able to turn the team’s image.

Since retiring, Dungy has served as an analyst on NBC’s Football Night in America. He is a huge advocate for representation, social justice, and more coaching opportunities for African Americans in the NFL.
