The notorious Colombian drug lord, whose name became synonymous with the dark underbelly of the cocaine-based drug trade, passed away on September 3, 2012.
The circumstances surrounding Griselda Blanco’s death were as dramatic and violent as her life had been. On that fateful day, Blanco, accompanied by her pregnant daughter-in-law, visited the Cardiso butcher shop in Medellín.
As she exited the establishment, an assassin on a motorcycle approached and fired two fatal shots, bringing an end to Blanco’s tumultuous and notorious journey.

The method of her assassination, a drive-by motorcycle shooting, eerily mirrored the very same tactic for which Griselda Blanco was often credited during her reign of terror in Miami.
Her death marked the closing chapter of a life defined by criminality, violence, and a formidable presence in the ruthless world of drug trafficking. The legacy of the “Cocaine Godmother” endures as a cautionary tale of the dark consequences of a life steeped in organized crime.
