Bianchi’s death was the first in Formula One in over 20 years, following Ayrton Senna’s fatal accident at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. It is also the most recent fatal accident to occur in Formula One as of 2022.
Bianchi made his Marussia debut, finishing 15th in his first race in Australia, and finished the season in 19th place without scoring any points.
That year, his best finish was 13th at the Malaysian Grand Prix. The team confirmed in October 2013 that he would drive for them the following season.
