The couple shared the news on Instagram Wednesday, July 10 2024 with a photo showing Soros, 38, proposing to 47-year-old Abedin on bended knee. Their caption expressed immense happiness and love for each other.
According to Vogue, Soros proposed to Abedin in May 2024 at their home in New York City, followed by a celebration in Italy. The couple revealed they met in the fall of 2023 at a mutual friend’s birthday party.
Abedin, known for her role in Clinton’s political career and as an MSNBC contributor, authored the memoir “Both/And: A Life in Many Worlds” in 2021.
She previously served as vice chair of Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, a role she took on nearly two decades after starting her career with the then-first lady.
Abedin was previously married to former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner from 2010 to 2017. Following Weiner’s legal troubles and imprisonment for transmitting sexual material to a minor, Abedin filed for divorce. They have a 12-year-old son named Jordan together.

In a 2021 interview with USA TODAY, Abedin reflected on reclaiming her life after facing public scrutiny and personal challenges. “I walked with so much shame for so long and I really wanted to take the power away from that,” she shared. “This is clearing the slate. I have nothing to hide.”
Abedin’s personal life was also thrust into the spotlight during the FBI investigation into emails containing classified information sent by Clinton using a private server when she was Secretary of State.
Abedin’s emails found on Weiner’s personal computer led to the reopening of the investigation shortly before the 2016 election, though no charges were ultimately filed.
Alex Soros, chair of Open Society Foundations and heir to his father’s vast fortune, oversees a philanthropic empire focused on promoting democratic principles, human rights, and justice.
