An inquiry has been launched to investigate a foundation set up in honour of Captain Sir Tom Moore amid concerns that his family have profited from using his name.

The Charity Commission said it was concerned about The Captain Tom Foundation’s independence from a business run by his family. Captain Tom died last year aged 100 and raised millions for the NHS but this money is not part of the inquiry.

The foundation is aimed at supporting and empowering older people through fundraising and awareness campaigns.

Shortly before the formation of the foundation, his daughter Hannah Ingram and her husband Colin set up a private company called Club Nook Ltd. The inquiry will examine concerns that the company controlled by Captain Tom’s daughter potentially profited by trademarking the brand without objections from the foundation.
The inquiry will also look into allegations of mismanagement in the administration of the foundation.
