The curfew, starting from Sunday, June 23, 2024, restricts movement within the specified area from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.

Nkonya and Alavanyo have been entangled in a boundary dispute since 1923. This land, abundant in timber, bamboo, and cola nuts, has been the focal point of recurring violence for many years.

In May 2022, tensions escalated when a woman was fatally shot and another person injured. The Volta Regional Peace Council called for an end to retaliatory killings, highlighting that 85 lives had been lost since 1983 due to the conflict.

Various approaches have been used to address the conflict, such as military and police interventions, court rulings, peacebuilding initiatives engaging stakeholders, and mediation efforts.

The Ministry of Interior did not cite specific reasons for extending the curfew but emphasized the prohibition on carrying firearms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in the affected areas.
