Oliver Alexander Thornton was born on 15 July 1990, in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. His parents separated when he was 13 and he was raised alongside his brother Ben (who is autistic) by his mother.
Olly Alexander’s mother, Vicki Thornton was one of the founders of the Coleford Music Festival. Olly attended St John’s Primary School in Coleford and Monmouth Comprehensive School. He later studied Performing Arts at the Hereford College of Arts following the completion of his GCSEs.
Olly Alexander dropped out of the Hereford College of Arts in order to pursue a career in acting. He had earlier obtained the services of an agent when he was 16 years old and auditioning for a part in the British TV series Skins.

Olly Alexander is a solo act. However, he was the lead vocalist of the band, Years & Years which was formed in 2010. Other members of the Years & Years band include Mikey Goldsworthy, Emre Türkmen, Noel Leeman, and Olivier Subria.

Olly Alexander joined the band later after former member Mikey Goldsworthy heard him singing in the shower and liked his voice.
What happened to Olly Alexander?
Olly Alexander has taken control of the Years & Years band after the synth-pop trio became his own solo project. However, the frontman’s former bandmates, Emre Türkmen and Mikey Goldsworthy remain close to the band.
