Elizabeth II was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022.

She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime and 15 at the time of her death.

When her father died in February 1952, Elizabeth, then 25 years old became queen of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (known today as Sri Lanka), as well as Head of the Commonwealth.

Is Queen Elizabeth related to Queen Margrethe?

Queen Margrethe II was a third cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, and the monarchs were descendants of both Queen Victoria and also King Christian X of Norway (he was Magrethe’s grandfather, and Elizabeth’s two-times great uncle by marriage).

At age 82, the Danish queen, a distant cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has spent 50 years on the throne and is now the only queen among the world’s royalty, and the oldest monarch.
