Sonia Maria Sotomayor was born on June 25, 1954, in Bronx, New York, the United States to her parents Celina Báez and Juan Sotomayor. She is of American nationality.
Sonia Sotomayor s father Juan Sotomayor worked as a tool and die worker and her mother Celina Baez worked as a telephone operator and a practical nurse. Sonia Sotomayor was raised alongside a younger brother, Juan Sotomayor who is a physician and university professor in Syracuse, New York.
Sonia Sotomayor schooled at Blessed Sacrament School in Soundview and then attended Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx. She entered Princeton University on a full scholarship in 1976. She was also educated at Yale Law School (1976–1979).
