Italy has officially called up Juventus defender Federico Gatti to replace the injured Giorgio Scalvini and Francesco Acerbi for the upcoming Euro 2024.

Acerbi, a veteran from Inter Milan, had to leave the national squad last week for surgery to address ongoing groin problems.
The situation worsened when Scalvini tore his ACL during Atalanta’s last Serie A match against Fiorentina, an injury likely to keep him out for the rest of the year.
Head coach Luciano Spalletti responded by bringing in Gatti, who will join the team at Coverciano on Monday to start their preparations.
The 25-year-old has previously played three times for Italy, with his last game being a 5-2 win over North Macedonia in November.

Gatti’s football journey began with youth stints at Chieri, Torino, and Alessandria. He started his senior career in 2015 with Pavarolo, helping them get promoted to Eccellenza.
After a brief period at Saluzzo, he returned to Pavarolo before moving to Verbania, where he helped the team win the Eccellenza title and move up to Serie D.
He then made his professional debut with Serie C side Pro Patria and later joined Serie B team Frosinone.
In January 2022, Gatti was signed by Juventus, who loaned him back to Frosinone for the remainder of the season. Unlike many of his peers, Gatti did not play for Italy’s youth teams but made his senior debut in 2022.
