James Cunningham “Jimmy” Wofford was an American equestrian who competed in many international eventing competitions. Wofford was best known as a horse and rider trainer, as well as a retired president of the AHSA and vice-president of the USET.

Wofford rode for the USA Eventing Team from 1965 to 1985. During this time, Wofford received instruction from Bert de Nemethy and Jack Le Goff.

Wofford competed on his famous horse Kilkenny in the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games, winning team silver both times, and was also named to the 1980 Olympic Games but did not compete due to the Olympic Committee’s boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics. Many years later, Wofford was one of 461 athletes to receive a Congressional Gold Medal.

Wofford also competed on the US Eventing Team at the 1970 World Championships in Punchestown, Ireland, winning an individual bronze with Kilkenny and a team bronze with Carawich.
