James Whale Faces Grim Prognosis As Cancer Treatment Takes A Toll

In a heart-wrenching revelation, renowned broadcaster James Whale has expressed his doubts about surviving another year, as he divulges that his ongoing cancer treatments are not yielding the desired results.

Whale, 72, initially received a diagnosis of kidney cancer back in 2000 and underwent surgery to have one of his kidneys removed. However, in 2020, he disclosed that the cancer had metastasized to his spine, brain, and lungs, posing a significant challenge to his health.

Unfortunately, Whale now reveals that his cancer treatments are proving to be ineffective, leaving him feeling as though he has exhausted most available options. Attending the Television and Radio Industries Club (Tric) awards alongside his wife, Nadine Lamont-Brown, whom he married in 2021, Whale expressed his belief that his time on Earth may be limited to 2024. Despite the gravity of the situation, he approached the subject with his characteristic sense of humor, jokingly remarking, “When I lose a lot more weight when I get really ill, I’ll look fantastic,” as reported by The Mirror.

Providing an update on his treatment, Whale shared that he had recently stopped taking steroids, which had caused significant weight gain. “I’ve just come off all the steroids I was on, which made me look like a bloody balloon. I’m feeling better from that,” he said. However, the challenges of battling cancer persist. “The cancer gets into your head, and sometimes you can’t stand noise. At the moment, I have cancer fatigue, which makes you very tired,” Whale explained. Reflecting on his condition, he admitted to occasional moments of self-pity but expressed more concern for his wife, acknowledging the difficulties she faces alongside him.

Nadine Lamont-Brown, in turn, revealed that James Whale had been participating in a clinical trial, but unfortunately, the treatment had ceased to be effective, prompting the decision to discontinue it. “He’s had all the possible treatments; he’s on a clinical trial, but we’re probably going to be winding up on that quite soon. It’s stopped working,” she shared.

While Whale had contemplated the option of assisted death in a Swiss clinic, the current plan is for him to spend his remaining days at home with his family. The news follows the loss of his first wife, Medlina, in 2018, just months after she was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. The couple had been married for 48 years and had two sons together.
