Jamey Rootes was the first team president of the NFL team, the Houston Texans. Jamey Rootes passed away on Sunday, August 21 2022 following a “battle with mental health issues.” He was 56.

Many people took to social media to express their condolences and pay tribute to Rootes.
John P. Lopez, the host of In The Loop on SportsRadio 610, wrote: “My best memories of Jamey Rootes have nothing to do with football or the Texans. He was a fine person whose love for his family shined.”

Rootes, a 20-year member of the Texans organisation, was hired as team president by late owner Bob McNair in 2002, the year the Texans played their first NFL game.
He resigned in February 2021 and was succeeded in March by current President Greg Grissom
He was named to the Sports Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” list twice. He also served as the president and general manager of Ohio’s MLS franchise, the Columbus Crew.
Rootes attended Clemson, then Indiana, where he earned his MBA and worked as an assistant soccer coach. He is survived by his wife, Melissa, and their two children.
