American actor, stand-up comedian, producer, and author Jenny Sarah Slate was born on March 25, 1982. Milton, Massachusetts, is where Slate was born and raised. He attended Milton Academy and later Columbia University to study literature. She became involved in the improv and comedy scenes while there.

After her early acting and stand-up performances on television, Slate’s children’s short film and book series Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, as well as her live variety shows in New York City, helped her gain recognition (2010–present). From 2017 through 2020, Slate provided Missy Foreman’s voice for Greenwald in the Netflix animated series Big Mouth. Because she felt that an African-American character should be represented by an African-American actor, Slate hired actor Ayo Edebiri to voice Missy in 2020. Despite no longer providing Missy with a voice, Slate still does it for a number of other characters on the show.
