Jigawa State Assembly Lifts Suspension of Four Council Chairmen

Chairmen Bappa Shinge of Auyo Local Government Area (LGA), Bala Usman-Chamo of Dutse LGA, Ahmed Rufa’i of Gumel LGA, and Shehu Sule-Udi of Ringim LGA in Jigawa state, who were temporarily removed from office by the state house of assembly on March 6 due to allegations of misconduct, negligence, and improper use of public funds as identified by the Committee on Local Government during its oversight visit, have been reinstated.

The House formed a special committee to probe the suspended council chairmen. Mr. Aminu Zakari, the Acting Chairman of the committee, presented the report, outlining 11 discoveries and observations from the investigation.

Zakari mentioned that the committee meticulously examined the documentation, including reports from consultants for each of the four local governments.

They also scrutinized the documents provided by the suspended council chairmen in their defense and took their appeals into account. As a result, the committee formulated 11 recommendations.

One important recommendation was to strongly advise the affected chairmen to avoid any unethical or inappropriate conduct in their administrative and financial activities.

After the report was presented, the house conducted a voice vote to decide on the reinstatement of the chairmen. With the majority supporting their recall, Speaker Mr. Haruna Aliyu announced the immediate reinstatement of the four chairmen.
