But the film depicts their meeting during one of Freddie’s extravagant parties, where Jim is a waiter. They moved in together not long after they started dating in the 1980s, and they did so for a number of years.

Freddie allegedly told Jim he would understand if he wanted to end their relationship after receiving an AIDS diagnosis in 1987.
Hutton warned them, “Don’t be stupid,” as reported by The Daily Beast. “I won’t be leaving. I intend to stay for the long run.
Until Freddie’s passing in 1991, Jim stayed with him and assisted with his care.
