James Richard Garoppolo, also referred to as Jimmy G, is a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. At Eastern Illinois University, where he was a student, he set school records for career passing yards and touchdowns and received the Walter Payton Award as a senior.

He was given the Walter Payton Award, which is given to the top offensive player in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision. In addition, he was named the 2013-14 OVC Male Athlete of the Year and the FCS National QB of the Year by College Football Performance. Garoppolo is in the third year of a five-year, $137 million deal with the 49ers and owns a $9.75 million home in Charleston.
