American film editor, John Wright who was known for his contribution to The Passion of Christ (2004) and Apocalypto (2006), has been reported dead.

According to his family, he died of prostate and bone cancer at the age of 79. He reportedly died in his home in Calabasas on April 20, 2023.
He began his career as an editor at KABC-TV right after graduating from Van Nuys High School. He also worked on National Geographic and Jacques Costeau specials during the early stages of his career.

From there, Wright worked as an editor on Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and The Bad News Bears (1976). Acapulco Gold and Dogs was his first feature film as a major film editor.
In 1989, he was nominated for Emmy Award for Best Editing for the movie, My name Is Bill W. Wright also received an Oscar nomination for Speed by Jan de Bont, and The Hunt for Red October, one of the movies he edited for John McTiernan.
