Former midfielder José Luis Mendilibar Etxebarria, who was born on March 14, 1961, is presently the manager of Sevilla FC.

He never played beyond Segunda División, making 290 games and scoring 34 goals, mostly for Sestao and Logroés.
He oversaw Athletic Bilbao, Valladolid, Osasuna, Levante, Eibar, Alavés, and Sevilla for more than 15 years in La Liga. In 2006–07, the second of those teams won the second division.
Mendilibar was hired by Real Valladolid in the second division in June 2006.

His team earned a record 88 points and went on a 29-game unbeaten streak to win promotion as champions in his debut season, securing their position in the top division with eight games remaining.
By defeating Gimnàstic de Tarragona and Villarreal CF from the division above on aggregate during the same season, they advanced to the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.
