Josef Martínez started his football career with Caracas. In 2012, he was signed by the Swiss Super League club, Young Boys. He was sent to play on a season-long loan at Thun.
In 2014, Seria A side, Torino, purchased Josef Martinez for an undisclosed price. He spent three seasons with them before he made a transcontinental move in 2017 to play for Major League Soccer expansion side, Atlanta United FC.
