Joshua Benjamin Green was born in Sydney, Australia on November 16, 2000. Josh Green began playing basketball in the northwest Sydney suburb of Castle Hill at age five when his mother started coaching him.

By age 10, he had been selected to represent his home state of New South Wales in nine sports. Josh Green switched to play club basketball for Penrith in 2013 and was selected to represent the under-14 and under-16 New South Wales state teams in successive years as a bottom-ager.

While attending The King’s School in Sydney, Josh Green was selected to represent the New South Wales’ under-16 state team at 13. He also attended Mountain Ridge High School and the IMG Academy in Florida where he became a five-star draft prospect.
