Josephine Victoria “Joy” Behar was born Josephine Victoria Occhiuto on October 7, 1942, in Williamsburg, New York, the United States to parents Gino Occhiuto and Rose Carbone.

Joy Behar was born as the only child to a Roman Catholic family. Her mother, Rose Carbone was a seamstress, while her father, Gino Occhiuto, was a truck driver for Coca-Cola.

Joy Behar obtained a BA in sociology from Queens College in 1964 before earning an MA in English education from Stony Brook University in 1966. She proceeded to study acting at the HB Studio.

Joy Behar has hosted The Joy Behar Show on HLN, Joy Behar: Say Anything! on Current TV, as well as Late Night Joy which aired on TLC in 2015. Joy Behar is presently residing in The Hamptons.

Joy Behar was previously married to college professor Joe Behar with whom she has a daughter, Eve Behar Scotti. Behar later married Steve Janowitz in 2011.
