Juan Carlos Ferrero Donat is a Spanish former World No. 1 tennis player.

He was born on February 12, 1980, in Ontinyent, Spain to Eduardo Ferrero and Rosario Donat.

At age 7, Juan Ferrero began playing tennis with his father, Eduard who usually traveled with him.

Ferrero made his professional debut in 1998 and reached the finals of his first Futures tournament in Italy. He won two Futures events and ranked No. 345.

Ferrero won the men’s singles title at the 2003 French Open and emerged as world number one in the ATP ranking. He became the 21st player to hold the top ranking – for eight weeks.

Following the 2012 Valencia Open, Ferrero nicknamed “Mosquito” retired from professional tennis.

In his 14-year career as a tennis player, Ferrero amassed 16 titles, 1 Grand Slam, 4 Masters Series, 2 ATP 500, and 9 ATP 250.

His fitness trainer was Miguel Maeso, and he was coached by Antonio Martínez Cascales (from 1989) and Salvador Navarro (from May 2008).

In July 2017, Ferrero started working as a coach of then-No. 11 Alexander Zverev. The work ended in February 2018, and now coaches Spanish professional tennis player Carlos Alcaraz.

Juan Carlos Ferrero has been the CEO & Sporting Director at JC Ferrero Equelite Sport Academy since November 2012.

In July 2007, Ferrero bought an old cottage in Bocairent, south of Valencia, and refurbished it into “Hotel Ferrero”, which features 12 luxury suites.

Eduardo Ferrero and Rosario Donat are the parents of Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Juan Ferrero’s father Eduardo Ferrero died on March 20, 2022, at age 79.

Eduardo Ferrero who had been witnessing Carlos Alcaraz’s debut in the Davis Cup in Marbella live was the great promoter of his son Juan Carlos Ferrero’s tennis career.

The originator of one of the great rackets of the men’s ‘Armada’ was one of the best in his region in racquetball.

Eduardo was also a member of the board of directors of the Valencian Tennis Federation.

Eduardo Ferrero’s funeral rite was held in Onteniente on March 22, 2022.

Juan Ferrero’s mother Rosario Donat also died of cancer in 1997 when Juan was 17.

Ferrero’s inspiration has been his mother, Rosario, who died of cancer when he was 17.

Both parents are survived by their children; Ana Ferrero, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and Laura Ferrero.
