The Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against private legal practitioner Kwame Adofo. This legal action comes in response to accusations made by Adofo, alleging financial impropriety and procurement violations by the CEO.

Kwame Adofo, who served as KATH’s legal counsel until December 31, 2023, submitted a petition to President Akufo-Addo, stating that he possessed substantial evidence of Prof. Addai-Mensah’s financial mismanagement and incompetence. These allegations have stirred significant controversy, prompting labour unions at KATH in the Ashanti Region to oppose the petition calling for the CEO’s dismissal publicly.

In a joint statement, the labour unions firmly dismissed Adofo’s accusations, labelling the petition as baseless and riddled with inaccuracies. They expressed their support for Prof. Addai-Mensah, emphasizing his integrity and effective leadership at the hospital.

Prof. Addai-Mensah’s defamation suit seeks damages amounting to three million Ghana cedis. Additionally, the CEO requests that the court compel Mr. Adofo to retract his statements in newspaper and online publications. Prof. Addai-Mensah also demands a public apology from Adofo for the defamatory remarks.
