Kickboxing champion Katsuyori Shibata was born to his father, Katsuhisa Shibata, a “former Japanese sumo wrestler and New Japan Pro-Wrestling competitor.”

Katsuhisa passed away on January 16, 2010, after a wrestling career that lasted 11 years (1966 to 1977).
Upon retirement, Katsuhisa served as a referee for the next 32 years of his life before his passing.

Katsuyori Shibata is a pro wrestler from Japan, who doubles as a mixed martial artist and wrestling trainer.
Shibata performs under the All Elite Wrestling (AEW), and is the current ROH Pure Champion.

Shibata has been able to defend his ROH Pure Championship title on two occasions.

He has spent most of his career with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and is a “former three-time NEVER Openweight Champion, and a one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion.”
In 2017, he won the New Japan Cup, and has previously been a Revolution Pro Wrestling’s British Heavyweight Champion.
As a trainer, Shibata served as the head coach of NJPW’s dojo in Los Angeles for five years.
So far in mixed martial arts, he has recorded 4 wins and a draw out of 15 fights.
Shibata happens to be the son of “former Japan Pro Wrestling Alliance and New Japan Pro-Wrestling competitor Katsuhisa Shibata.”
