The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said on Twitter that the neighborhood rampage began with the officer first gunning down his wife at their home with his licensed AK-47 rifle, and then setting off to shoot dead four more people.
The officer in charge of Nairobi’s Dagoretti area, Francis Wahome, refused to disclose further details of the investigation, especially what possibly motivated the “rogue” officer’s behavior. He, however, revealed that the officer had not shown any sign of agitation or inclination to or involvement in any murderous actions prior to the incident, and that “he had been going for duty properly”.

Eyewitness report that the rogue officer showed up unannounced in the neighborhood, cocked his rifle, and opened fire without a single word. The incident incited the residents of the Dagoretti area to light up tires and protest against the violence.
