Born on November 27, 1990, Joyner played collegiate football for Florida State University (FSU), after graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

While at FSU, he played special teams and finished with 23 tackles, two pass break-ups, and one interception, in a total of 14 games.

He was selected as 41st pick, in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, by the St. Louis Rams, and later went ahead to play for the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and now, the New York Jets.

In 2021, Joyner and the New York Jets agreed to a one-year contract and on March 15, 2022, his contract with the Jets was extended for another one year.
